13th century Byzantine Tzangratoros

The crossbow was adopted by the Byzantine infantry in the late 12th-13th early cent. Associated primarily with western Europeans, the crossbow or "tzangra" remained of secondary relevance and was mostly restricted to naval combat and sieges.
